John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions through his songs of pop-folk and many of them located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his adopted state brought many people to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, stated: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado as John Denver." Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. Denver is today Colorado's international image. In my journeys, you come across someone on the opposite end of the planet, one who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm originally from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief period in small folk ensembles. Danoff initially wrote the song using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it could be a huge popular. He recorded it a couple of days after having performed at Washington D.C. before an audience that was very enthusiastic.
